Exploring Silence
“This Adventure into Silence was more than I could wish for. Sara Maitland inspired, challenged, invited and guided us to explore our own silence.”
Our Adventure into Silence returned to its beautiful desert camp in South Sinai in October, welcomed by our longstanding Bedouin host Suleiman.
“It is huge and silent, austere, even harsh, out there in the desert; but it is also quite extraordinarily beautiful … And, for me along with many others, desert silence is something profoundly joyful.” Sara Maitland.
Each day began with a seminar from our guest speaker Sara, followed by time spent alone for reflection in a secluded place, chosen by each member of the group to be their own desert hermitage for the week. There were excursions on foot and camel, as well as a star-gazing walk and the week culminated in a visit to St Catherine’s Monastery.
